FARO Receives Technology Award in France for Gold Series FAROARM(R)

LAKE MARY, Fla., Dec. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- FARO Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: FARO), the leading manufacturer of three-dimensional (3D) measuring equipment and software, today announced that it has received the 'Palmares Technologique' (Technology Award) from French trade magazine Mesures in the category of Mechanical Measuring Devices.

Products from more than 20 other companies competed against FARO's Gold series FaroArm, a portable, software-driven measuring device used to measure parts and subassemblies on the factory floor enabling comparisons to design specifications. Independent manufacturing industry judges chosen by the magazine, one of the leading French publications in its field, rated companies based on their product's innovation, price and performance. The magazine announced the award in the October 1999 issue and presented it at a ceremony in November.

"We are pleased to be given this prestigious award," stated Gregory Fraser, Executive Vice President of FARO. "Since we introduced the new Gold and Sterling series products in September 1998, the Gold Series has been especially well received in all of our markets, including France. The accuracy of the Gold series allows our customers to measure more parts and assemblies on the factory floor, and to do so at the same price as previous, less accurate products. This award will help our sales and product awareness expansion efforts in France -- a region that is home to our primary competitor."

FARO Technologies, Inc. and its international subsidiaries are pioneers and market leaders in the Computer-Aided Manufacturing Measurement (CAMM) market, which is the final frontier of the Computer-Aided Design (CAD) revolution. The company's hardware and software products play a key role in the worldwide trend toward CAD-based total quality management for shortened production cycles and in total quality management for the reduction in scrap and rework. FARO's product line includes FaroArm portable measurement equipment, a broad range of CAD-based inspection software for portable and fixed-base coordinate measurement machines, and factory-level statistical process control (SPC) software.
