FARO Opens New European Headquarters

                      -- Consolidates German Operations
                        -- Adds New Service Capability

LAKE MARY, Fla., Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- FARO Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: FARO), the leading producer of computer-aided manufacturing measurement (CAMM) solutions, including portable, software-driven three-dimensional (3D) measuring equipment, today announced the opening of a new 14,000 square foot headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany.

"This new facility brings together our administration, marketing, engineering, information technologies and service departments for significant increases in operational efficiency," said Wendelin Scharbach, Managing Director of FARO Europe, a wholly-owned subsidiary of FARO. "With our headquarters now located in Stuttgart, we will be closer to some of our key customers, including DaimlerChrysler and Audi."

The new headquarters includes a service facility for repair and certification of hardware products as well as telephone support. Previously, recertification and repairs of the company's FaroArm(R) product were completed only at FARO's worldwide headquarters and manufacturing center in Florida.

"This is a major benefit to our European customers," said Sharbach. "We also expect it to result in cost savings both to FARO and its customers, especially in transatlantic shipping."

"I am very pleased with the move into our new European headquarters, especially as it allows us to mirror our USA operations much better," said Simon Raab, chief executive officer at FARO. "This is important as we expect to seek ISO 9001 registration for our European operations this year. Also, the ability for us to perform full certification of our inspection equipment in Germany is especially important, as sales in Europe are growing faster than in any of our other markets. For example, as we have indicated previously, in the third quarter of 1999 European sales and orders increased 49% and 10%, respectively, over the same period a year ago."

FARO Technologies, Inc. and its international subsidiaries are pioneers and market leaders in the computer-aided manufacturing measurement (CAMM) market, which is the final frontier of the computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) revolution. FARO's product line includes portable, 3D measurement equipment, a broad range of CAD-based inspection software for portable and fixed-base coordinate measurement machines, as well as factory-level statistical process control (SPC), and manufacturing quality consulting services. The company's products play a key role in the worldwide trend toward CAD-based total quality management for shortened production cycles and for the reduction in scrap and rework. FARO's products are used worldwide by a wide variety of manufacturing companies, both large and small. News and information are available at the company's web site at http://www.faro.com .
